A meeting was held on 7 September 1967 at NPIC for the purpose of discussing the operational deficiencies of the Briefing Print En- larger (BPE) encountered b PSD since installation of the equipment on 26 June 1967A I 2. The major problem, according tol is the fluid gate design, which allows bubbles to remain in the projection path. Other problems discussed was the permanent condensor lens mountings which prevents the lenses from being thoroughly cleaned, the coordinate counter should be in millimeters instead of centimeters, and a cut- off is desired on the vacuum easel to permit an operator to more accurately position the print paper. representatives, the operational problems the following decisions were reached: 3. After operating the Enlarger for a time, to show the a. Qwill provide a larger knob on the lamphouse to move the gate into position more slowly. b. 0 will look into the fluid gate (bubble) problem by devising some method of holding the film equidistant from the gate glass when injecting fluid, by trying dif- ferent nozzle configurations, and trying various gate fluids. The breadboard equipment, still at =will be used for this investigation insofar as possible. It may be necessary to use the DIA machine for a week or two if the breadboard will not suffice. Verbal permission has been granted by DIAAP-10 to hold up delivery on their Enlarger if necessary. The redesign of the condensor lens and gate glass was held-up pending further field use. However, it was felt that any change from the solid permanent mounting would de- grade the quality of the product. 4. PAR's 247 and 248 for BPE spare parts and High Magnification Lenses were also discussed with regard to shortening delivery time. DIA was queried as to whether they wanted to go ahead with their High Magnification Lenses before the prototype was completed. They said to go ahead with the order under existing funds. 5. 0 will advise us of any design changes required as a result of the above investigations, with the estimated time and costs associated. 25X1 Support Systems Branch, DS/TDS Distribution: Original - Route $ File 2 - NPIC/TDS/DS 0 Approved For Release 2004/11/ pE~lh-M[ P78BO477OA000500010034-0
