MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant for Plans and Development, NPIC
SUBJECT Recommendations for Identification of
Micro stereoscopes
REFERENCE : Memorandum NPIC/P&DS/D/6-1439, dated 23 June 1966
1. In response to the referrenced memorandum, PAG concurs that
use of numbers assigned to the various operating components would
greatly simplify identification of ownership of existing equipment.
However, may we point out that any equipment received in the future
i will have identification numbers assigned by the manufacturer. It
would then be necessary to remove their tag and replace one of our
own serially numbered plates. If sufficient plates can be ordered
and blocks of numbers assigned for equipment that would encompass
requirements for the next few years, then this concept would be
more appropriate.
2. At present the PAG inventory can be converted to assigned
numbers as suggested. If additional cost factors are involved in
making non-consecutive serially numbered plates, by all means, PAG
would readily convert to this system. If there are no problems in
converting all accountable pieces of photointerpretation equipment
to blocks of serially numbered plates PAG would also agree to this.
If the proposed program, in the referrenced memorandum, were to be acti-
vated it would seem more logical to include with the microscopes
other nonexpendible equipment used that is common to. all operating
components.
3. The following is a list of the various pieces of equipment
considered and suggested serial numbers that could be assigned:
a)
918 Light Tables
001 - 399
b)
940 Light Tables
400 - 799
c)
Light Bases w/
measuring stage

The numbers suggested are based upon personnel requirement through
FY 1972 and should not change to any appreciable degree. If
additional numbers are required, the suffix A or any other letter
can be added to these numbers.
4. Your comments on this proposal would be appreciated.
