SUBJECT Search for THICK EIGHT HF/DF Facilities,
USSR

1. In response to the referenced requirement, 17
locations in the USSR were searched for THICK EIGHT high-
frequency/direction-finding (HF/DF) facilities. The re-
quirement also requested an analysis of any associated HF
communications antennas. THICK EIGHT HF/DF facilities
were identified at 10 of the 17 locations. An associated
communications antenna, a single quadrant, could be iden-
tified only at the Brest DF Facility THICK EIGHT. The
latest available 1 photography
through was used in this analysis.
2. Confirmed THICK EIGHT HF/DF facilities were
observed at the following locations.
a) Brest DF Facility THICK EIGHT

A probable buried cable extends from the control building
of the HF/DF antenna to a quadrant antenna. A small sup-
port building is near the quadrant antenna.
b) Lvov DF Facility THICK EIGHT
49-55-OON 024-04-OOE
Four support buildings and nine probable communications vans
are adjacent to the HF/DF antenna. No HF communications an-
tennas could be identified.
