This memorandum is for record purposes only. It reports com-
~lrtion of Project No. 70.220, code name -- The project 25X1A
required the assistance of the Photogra.hic Intelligence Division.
This Division supported a DD/P operation involving both the training
of clandestine -personnel in ground photography techniques and the
analysis of aerial photography.
Tuo days' of instruction and practical work in the Washington
area were given to agent personnel. Instruction covered the techniques
of,tele-photography, stereo-photography, and cycloramic-photography,
as well as instruction and practical work in photo mission planning

Photographic Intelligence Division accompanied DD/P'personnel on a
?i-day field exercise. Field trainin; consisted of observation of the
a-vents' performance and a detailed critique of the complete exercise.
Additional critiques were held at later dates to evaluate agent
performance in a series of subsequent field exercis,s.
drip fort was provided in the procurement and analysis of aerial
thoto::raphy of the target area. Agent personnel were briefed on the
nature of the terrain, vegetation, trafficability, and human occupance.
Instruction was presented in the rudiments of photo interpretation and
stereoscopic vieiring. Each agent carefully studied aerial photo-
rraphy of the target and routes of movement under the guidance of a

photo intelliennce analyst. An interchange of ideas helped familiarize
th.e agents with the most intimate discernible details of the area of
interest. The procedure developed a sense of confidence on the part of
the agents arisin;-; from an accurate knowledge of conditions to
raced on the ground.
As a final phase of training. the agents, under ;/GP supervision,
prepared detailed terrain models of 2 areas of major interest. These
models, prepared to scale from mad; and photo cover, t,sere used for
-final discussion and briefinns.
J/GC provided active sun port on a crash basis in the procurement
and re-^roduction of special maps and charts of the area of operation.
