This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a. DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division.,
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Zavitinsk Army Barracks is located on the
southern edge of Zavitinsk (Figure 1). The
installation covers approximately 1,100 acres
and contains 5 administration buildings, 35
barracks, 17 military quarters, 9 storage build-
ings, 1 ammunition storage building, 63 support
buildings, 10 vehicle sheds, 3 vehicle mainte-
nance buildings, 1 vehicle maintenance /storage
building, 2 other buildings, 5 motor parks, a
radar installation, 2 athletic fields, 3 small--
arms firing ranges, and an AAA site (Figures
2 and 3). Numerous open revetments are

Area D1 contains 1 administration building,
2 barracks, and 3 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 1 administration building,
10 barracks, and 20 support buildings.
Area D3 contains 16 barracks, 17 quarters,
2 storage buildings, and 16 support buildings.
Five barracks were constructed in this area

ing., One ammunition storage building was

A rail-served, secured POL storage depot
(not shown on sketch) with 7 medium and 6
small storage tanks and 4 support buildings is
located 3 km north.
Other Buildings
Area H contains 1 support building and 4
radar mounds. Radar equipment was observed
on 2 of the mounds.

Area J1 contains one 600- by 600-foot
vehicle park, three 150- by 40-foot vehicle
sheds, one 120- by 50-foot vehicle maintenance/
storage building, and 2 support buildings.

vehicle park, one 90- by 40-foot vehicle shed,
one 120- by 100-foot vehicle maintenance build-
ing with a 120- by 50-foot leg, and 3 support

Area J5 contains one 600- by 400-foot
vehicle park, 3 vehicle sheds (two 120 by 40
feet and one 150 by 50 feet), and 5 support

Areas K1 and K2 are athletic fields which
appear to he in use.
Small-Arms Firi Ranges
Area I.1 contains two 600- by 50-foot small-
arms firing ranges. Both ranges are being used.
Area 1,2 contains a 600- by 120-foot small-
arms firing range which is being used.
Artillery Emplacements (Batteries)
Area (1 contains an AAA site with 6 positions
and a central control area. Lack of track activity
and ground scarring indicate that the site is not
being used.
Unidentified Facilities or Tracking Activity
Area `1' contains 1 building in a secured area.
