This mission covers the Kamchatka river valley from 56?32N, 160?53'W to
55?47'N, 159?391W in a generally north-south direction and from 56?25'N, 159?431W
to 56?17'N, 162?00W, in a generally west-east direction. This includes the towns
of Klyuchi, Kresty, Ushki, Kozyrovsk, Kravchinskaya, and Kemaki. Photography
was generally good along the river valley, while the highlands on the high obliques
were mostly obscured by heavy clouds. Owing to camera malfunction on the large-
scale photography, every third frame was blank and a complete malfunction ex-
tended from Kozyrovsk to Ushki.
While this mission has been dated 19 June, actual photographing of the
Kamchatha area took place on 20 June, owing to crossing of the International Date
Line.
The area was generally forest country, with snow in the highlands. Extensive
logging operations were visible throughout the area. A probable communication or
power line roughly paralleled the navigable Kamchatka river from south of Kozyrovsk
to Klyuchi. River traffic, consisting of barges and small craft, was active.
Agriculture was limited to small areas in the vicinity of towns or settlements.
