The ZAHONY transloading site has greatly expanded since World War II, when it
consisted of a 6-track yard, approx. 1800' long. This transloading site now occupies
an area 2.6 miles long and 700' wide. It consists of 4 separate, but adjoining, yards
extending along the rail line from SW to NE having approximate sizes as follows:

12-15 tracks, 5000'
long.
2.
25-30 tracks, 3500'
long.
3.
21-25 tracks, 3700'
long.
4.
26-30 tracks, h700'
long.
25X1D This transloading area is very active. On approximately 1000 cars
were present, mostly assembled into 40-50 trains.
Present facilities include a 200'x 100' locomotive repair shop, a 90' diameter
turntable, a 200'x 70' car repair shop, a coal tipple, and one large 780'x 35' freight
shed.
Construction activity is evident throughout the area. Concrete platforms are under
construction and filling and levelling operations are in progress for a probable further
expansion of transloading facilities.
A more detailed report on the ZAHONY-CHOP-CERNA Transloading area is in progress
and will be produced in the near future.
