US Air Target Chart, Series 200, Sheet 0164-18A., 2d ed, Oct 59, 1:200, 000 (S) Kartaly (53-03N 60-39E) is located at the rail junction of the double- track railroad leading north from Orsk to Sverdlovsk and the double-track ,railroad leading from Magnitogorsk east to Karaganda. The only available photography of Kartaly, taken in is partially hazy and cloudy, 25X1 D thus precluding a more accurate and.detailed photo analysis of this railroad center. The railroad classification yard is approximately 4, 000 feet long and 15-20 tracks wide. No major locomotive or car repair facilities are evident, but possibly they are obscured by clouds. Approximately 200 railroad cars are visible in the classification yard. Most of these can be identified only as two- or four-axle freight cars. No unusual rail cars were observed. The accompanying line drawing shows the elaborate network of con- nections between the main double-track railroads, the location of rail spurs serving industrial sites and warehouse areas in the city, and as many other rail facilities as could be identified.
