) REGULTSg
a. ( ) The target was the Erie Canal which was built
in the early 1800s, the canal connects the .Hudson River to Lake
Erie. Its features include a double set of locks built into a
granite escarpment and an aqueduct over BOO feet long. The
original canal was built to be a barge canal in which flat bottom
cargo barges were towed through the canal by mule at a peaceful
rate of 1 miles an hour.
b. ) Source initially appeared to be having some'
difficulty acquiring and describing specific items at the target
site. One and two word descriptives were the apparent limits of
her cognitive powers and even these words failed to offer any
direction for the Interviewer to take in focusing Sources awareness
on specific items, i.e., "moving gently", "triangle", "circle",
"open", and "massive". As the session progressed these early words
or descriptions took on greater meaning but in the early stages
there appeared to be little progress. Eventually Source focused on
a concept of water, apparently still water which resulted in a
temporary agitated state for' Source. This state was later
attributed to the fact that when Source first "acquired" the water
aspect of the site, she did so at a depth of about ten fathoms.
Other descriptives followed which provided the Interviewer valuable
"trails" to pursue in attempting to identify the major and
important gestalts of the site, bearing in mind, that like the
Source, the Interviewer was also unaware of the actual site
I dentity. Some of these key descriptives imthldeni, "floating",
"wetness, water", "coming, pulling, pulling towards, dropping,
opening, moving, peaceful, quiet (given in one rapid series)",
"dependency, working, a dependency upon each other to make things
go (again delivered in one series of descriptives)", "massive",
"windy", "land and water", "sad, dirty, angry (all provided in a
very agitated or distressed voice when attempting to describe the
actual area around the site)", and finally perhaps the most
revealing series. of descriptions "unfolding, moving, sweeping,
bring forth, fal ling, floating", which in the opinion of the
Interviewer was an extremely at:: description of the actual
working of one of the locks on the canal.
c. ) One item of special interest occurred each
time that the Source was specifically directed to describe the
actual target. On each of these occasions she began to hum quietly
almost imperceptibly growing louder as she "viewed" the site and
attempted to come up with the proper descriptives. The name of the
song could not be ascertained but apparently the Source was unable
to derive any pertinent or appropriate descriptives about a canal
and in lieu of this chose to call up a song which "reminded" Source
of or at least supplanted descriptives of the canal.
d. ) In a previous session recently conducted with
this Source, she tended to overlay a series of "left-brain"
analytics on her perceptions of the site in an attempt to identify
it for herself as well as this Interviewer. At that time Source

was mildly rebuked for this unacceptable behavior. In this
session, on the other hand, Source took a long swing to the other
end of the spectrum and chose to remain deep within her "right
brain" at all times thus leaving little "left brain" analytic
capability to explain to the Interviewer exactly what it was she
was trying to describe. Somewhere at a point in between lies the
ideal and probably is very near to be attained by this dedicated
and conscientious Source.
