SUBJECT Estimating Crop Yield from Satellite
Photography
1. The United States Intelligence Board has approved
the following recommendation of the ad hoc group to review
high resolution photographic covera e and exploitation of
photography on China, chaired by
"CIA proceed apace in seeking to develop
techniques which will enable estimates of crop
yield to be made from satellite photography."
(USIB-D-41.14/280, paragraph 22. b.)
It is hoped that this USIB approval will give further
impetus to the work already underway.? USIB also approved
a recommendation that COMOR, with the assistance of repre-
sentatives of interested agencies, review the status and
adequacy of the data base on China in six months time.
It is likely that this review will include the progress
made in implementing the recommendation quoted above.
