Three road-served military trainingareas,
designated Training Areas 1, 2, and 3 in this
report, are located in the general vicinity of
Storozhinets (Figure 1).
Training Area 1, covering 1,100 acres and
located 8 kilometers (km) southeast of Storo-
zhinets at 48-08N 025-49E, contains a tracked-
vehicle driver-training area (possibly also used
for crew drill), two moving-target tank firing
ranges, two probable maintenance buildings,
seven range support buildings, and a probable
tactical or combined-arms training area (Fig-
ure 2). This area was first observed in=
M and usage of the area has increased since
then. Tracks on the tracked-vehicle driver-
training course have been very heavy, almost
to the extent of obliterating the course. Two
of the firing lanes on the tank firing range
were extended from 2,700 feet to 3,800 feet
in - Activity appeared consistently
heavy in the probable tactical training area from
but was not as heavy as in M
photography shows the
area again receiving heavy usage. Winter
photography of
- does not reveal any usage of the area.
Training Area 2, covering 1,000 acres
and located 3 km southwest of Storozhinets
at 48-08N 025-42E, contains a tracked/wheeled-
vehicle driver-training course, a probable
tracked-vehicle driver-training course, a
bivouac area with an athletic field and five
Railroad Service
None of the training areas are directly
rail served; however, rail lines are located
0.8 km southwest of Training Area 1, 2.7
km northeast of Training Area 2, and 0.8 kin
southeast of Training Area 3.

permanent support buildings, and a probable in-
fantry tactical firing area with a flat-trajectory
firing range, seven targets, and an observation
tower. This training area was first observed 25X1 D
in- when the probable tracked-vehicle
driver-training course in the northwest was not 25X1 D
present. It was added in- and usage
of this area since then has been very light.
photography revealed that a fig- 25X1 D

had been added to the tracked/wheeled-vehicle
driver-training course. It also revealed a series
of lines or roads resembling a box in the area
of the tracked/wheeled-vehicle course, which 25X1 D
indicates that the course is possibly being con-
verted to other use. Photography from M
revealed no major
Winter photography of and 25X1 D
does not reveal any usage
of the training area.
Training Area 3, covering 800 acres and
located 13 km southwest of Storozhinets at
48-04 025-37E, includes a tracked/wheeled-ve-
hicle driver-training course and two probable
vehicle maintenance buildings. The area was
first observed in and the level of 25X1 D
activity since this time has increased during
the summer and fall months. Winter photography
of reveals 25X1 D
no usage of this area.
Road Service
All training areas are served by secondary
roads.
Administrative and Troop Housing Area
A bivouac area in Training Area 2 contains
approximately five support-type buildings and

an athletic field.
Other Buildings
Training Area 1 contains seven range sup-
port buildings; the bivouac area in Training
Area 2 contains five support buildings; and
Training Area 3 contains three range support
buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area Ji, in Training Area 1, contains two
220- by 60-foot probable maintenance buildings.
Area J2, in Training Area 3, contains two
220- by 60-foot probable maintenance buildings.
Athletic Field
Training Area 2 contains an athletic field
adjacent to a bivouac area.
Driver-Training Areas
Training Area 1 contains atracked- vehicle,
irregular-shaped, closed-circuit course (Ml),
first observed that is marked with
heavy ground scarring. Its proximity to the
tank-firing range and the heavy scarring indicate
that it may be used also for crew drill.
Training Area 2 contains a tracked/
wheeled-vehicle, irregular-shaped closed-cir-
cuit course (M2) first observed in -
A figure-8 course added in_ indicates that
the area is used for both tracked- and wheeled-
vehicle driver training. A series of lines or
roads resembling a box appear on
indicating that the area is
possibly being converted to other use. This

area also contains a tracked/wheeled- vehicle,
irregular-shaped, closed-circuit course (M3),
first observed ink Since that time use 25X1 D
of the area appears to be declining.
Training Area 3 contains a tracked/
wheeled- vehicle, irregular - shaped area con-
taining several irregular- shaped,closed-circuit
courses. Small courses within the area indi-
date that it may also be used by wheeled as
well as tracked vehicles. This area was first
observed in - and the level of activity
has since been increasing.
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Ranges
Training Area 1 contains a four-lane,
4,200- by 2,500-foot tank/assault-gun firing
range (Ni), with one 90-degree and three
10-degree moving targets, a two-lane 3,800-
by 2,000-foot range (N2), and a two-lane 2,600-
by 1,500-foot range (N3), each with a 90-degree
moving target.
Flat-Trajectory Firing Ranges
Training Area 2 contains a 1,300-foot flat-
trajectory firing range (P), with seven targets
at various distances.
Combined-Arms Field Training Course
Training Area 1 contains heavy ground
scarring and a series of parallel lanes (R)
with a maximum distance of 3,000 feet and
a minimum distance of 1,200 feet, which may
be used as a combined-arms training course.
