This report is a partial answer to DIA
requirement DIAXX 63-84, to verify the loca-
tion of selected military installations in Hungary
and to perform a photo analysis of these instal-
lations to determine function, number and dimen-
sions of buildings, to estimate troop capacity,
to identify and describe related training areas
and facilities, and to confirm or negate ammu-
nition and POL storage.

in Figure 1.
A. Military Barracks Area
Coordinates: 47-15-24N 016-37-58E (UTM

This walled military installation two miles
north of Szombathely covers 25 acres and
contains:
1 H-shaped barracks building, the five-
story base 135 by 45, the four-story
wings 300 by 50 feet, a total of 150,375
square feet
2 one-story administration buildings, one
L-shaped with a base 175 by 40 and a

2 revetted ammunition storage buildings,

A-1. A possible POL storage area located 175
feet southwest of this installation covers .15
acres and contains:
2 possible buried POL tanks, each approxi-
mately 20 feet in diameter, served by
an access road.

1.7 miles north of Szombathely covers six
acres and contains:
4 possible vertical tanks, each 10 feet
in diameter, height undetermined

This military installation at the north edge
of Szombathely covers approximately 68 acres
and contains:
3 E-shaped three-story barracks build-
ings, two each with a base 210 by 40
and two wings 55 by 15 and a center
wing 40 by 35 feet, and one with a
base 160 by 35 and three wings each 35
by 25 feet
6 U-shaped three-story barracks build-
ings, five each with a base 200 by 40
and two wings 55 by 25 feet, and one
with a base 125 by 35 and two wings
40 by 10 feet
1 L-shaped three-story barracks building
with a base 200 by 40 and a wing 55 by
25 feet
13 two-story barracks buildings, four 290
by 50, one 225 by 40, two 210 by 50,
one 160 by 50, one 150 by 50, one 145
by 50, two 120 by 50, and one 110 by 50
feet
1 E-shaped two-story barracks building
with a base 160 by 35, and two wings 25
by 15, and the center wing 40 by 15
feet, a total for the 24 barracks build-
ings of 568,675 square feet
8 vehicle sheds, one 350 by 45, three 325
by 45, one 270 by 45, one 230 by 60,
one 230 by 45, and one 125 by 40 feet
7 miscellaneous support buildings ranging
from 170 by 45 to 45 by 35 feet

D. Szombathely Army Barracks No 23
Troop capacity: 300
This military installation one mile north
of Szombathely covers 14 acres and contains:
2 one-story barracks buildings, 235 by 40
and 140 by 40 feet, a total of 15,000
square feet
1 one-story administration building 210
by 35 feet, with a total of 7,350 square
feet
1 vehicle shed 90 by 30 feet
2 miscellaneous support buildings ranging
from 175 by 45 to 60 by 25 feet
no observed ammunition or POL storage.
E. Szombathely Army Barracks West-Northwest
Coordinates: 47-14-03N 016-36-45E (UTM
