SUBJECT: CENTER LANE Interview Summary - HU-1028/8307/01 (U)
1. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) On 190900 July 1983, source #01 was interviewed
concerning two areas designated to him as areas "C" and "D" within a
group of unidentified buildings. The project 8307 sponsor had
provided geographic coordinates of the buildings, a photograph of the
buildings, and a map showing their relative location (see Incl 1).
2. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) For this interview source was shown the
photograph provided by sponsor. Other information provided by the
sponsor was not shown to the source as the collection plan called for
its use as "feedback" and cuing material for possible subsequent
interviews.
3. (U) A transcript of the interview was prepared (see Incl 2).
4. (U) A DA Form 341 (Agent Report) was prepared for the sponsor.
This report related the salient points of the interview. (see Incl 3).

for some time now and exploring freely. So that I
might understand, let's focus on the upper floors
of "C" area and then move down through the floors
in "C" area.

#01: An underground feeling and-feeling of iron
doors,..small rooms,..heating plants,...storage
areas.
#66: Okay. Give me a summary statement then of area
"Cu, summary statement.
#01: Ah...commercial a..mockups of commercial
communications equipment, instruction area,
or ..recognition area. ...That's all.
#66: Okay. Let's move over now to area "D".
#01: ...Get a individual group identities and language
feeling . ..Ah ..small groups, six ..seven to group
with various languages, .. . . .technical words in
languages.

activities and equipment.

people involved in area "D", the people in these
groups.
#01: ...Different groups, just different ways, ..subtle
difference,...action is subtly different, language
is different. Groups participate in separate
ethnics. ........Sense area "D" targets
are...multi national. Area "C's" single, single
country target.
#66: I don't understand the your choice of words.
#01: Training,..for a target,...training for target area
"C" is..single country. Area "D" is a ...different
countries.
#66: Okay.
#01: ...But it's all training. Mostly recognition.
Just a minute. ......These are not advanced
students, impression of ....newer student,
initiates. ....These are all new ones. That's all
I get.
#66: Okay. I have no further questions concerning areas
"C" and "D".
#01: ...I..have this overwhelming impression of it's
very old fashioned, this learning technique that
they're using there, is all old fashioned mockups
and.. silhouettes and..three-view drawings, ...stuff
that's filtered in from the fields over years and
years. That's is like preliminary "learn to walk
before you run" kind of atmosphere,..until you're
comfortable with the normality of things you see
here and we're not going to subject you to heavy
technicalities, you know, heavy learning things.
Sort of like what we see as being normal in our
everyday life, is completely new to these people or
unique, you know the technicalities of things.
..It's a really old fashioned learning method.

1. NAME. Of SUBJECT OR TITLE Of INCIDENT T DATE SUBMITTED ..._~
On 19 July 1983, Source Q7-01 was interviewed concerning
two areas identified to him as "C" and "D" within a group of
unidentified buildings. Source stated substantially as follows:
On the upper floors of area "C" there were large open bay
type rooms. These rooms were used as classrooms and on the
walls were drawings or profile diagrams which were used as
identification charts. One of these charts displayed, "front
view, side view . . .drawn to scale," what looked like a
microwave reflector (not further identified). On the lower
floors of area "C" there were classrooms with "mockups" of what
Source described as electrical equipment "like telephones,
switches; connectors . . . mounted on boards" ( not further
identified). Below this area there were rooms with iron doors,
utilities, and storage rooms. Source summarized his knowledge
of area "C" as an area of "mockups of commercial communications
equipment, instruction area, or recognition area."
The bottom floor of area "D" was a reference library
containing "technical, how-to books," Above the bottom floor
were classrooms in which groups (not further identified) of
approximately six or seven individuals were taught in different
languages (not further identified). This language instruction
included the use of "technical phrases" and/or "dialectal
language" (not further identified). Many technical words were
associated with this instruction. Instruction included the use
of visual aids such as pictures projected on the wall (not
further identified).
Source reported that the training taking place in area "C"
seemed to be focused on a single country (not further
identified) whereas the training in area "D" involved different
countries (not further identified). All of this training was
