Approved For Release 00/08/21 : CIA-RDP78-06367AU0100130006-0 20 March 1967 MEMORANDUM FOR: Sen ; rtr Training Off1 cer, D!7P SUBJECT: Nominations for The Defense Systems Analysis Educational Program 1. Attached is information on The Defense Systems Analysis Edu- cational Program of the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) given in cooperation with the University of Maryland. CIA has been assigned two spaces in the 1967-68 course to begin 26 June. This year's course has been lengthened to fourteen months. 2. In discussing the program with Brig. General Sidney F. Giffin, Director of the IDA, I was told that a mathematics and economics back- ground were desirable for a successful performance in the course, with more emphasis on the mathematics. Since the average age level of the class is approximately 35, we should consider candidates who are in the 30 to 40 age bracket and in grade GS-12 or higher to correspond with the rank of the military personnel who attend. Our candidates should be bright young men who are on their way up in the Agency, who are or may be assigned responsibilities for management of ADP activities, for planning, programming, and budgeting, or who will or may be given assignments in which analytical skills and decision making come into play. 3. We have been asked to submit our nominations to IDA as soon as possible. The Training Selection Board will make the final selection. In order to allow members of the Board time for review of all candidates, nominations must be in the office of the Executive Secretary, Training Selection Board, 839 - 1000 Glebe, by the close of business on 10 April. Six copies of the candidate's biographic profile and latest fitness report, plus an original and six copies of the college transcripts should accompany the nomination. 4. NOTE: The attached material was distributed in 1966. We will forward information on this year's course to you as soon as we receive it.
