STATEMENT OF PROBLEM 25X1A TARGET DATE
To prepare a Geographic Brief on the Thailand- Jul 196.8
Malaysia border area, comprising (tentatively) the ANALYST/BRANCH
5 southernmost provinces of Thailand and all or
parts of the 4 northernmost states of Malaya. This GD/P
region, affected by economic dislocations in the EST. ANALYST MANHOURS
rubber and fishing industries, is the scene of
continuing cross-border subversive insurgency 300
directed by the Communist Terrorist ?rganization
against Thailand and is an area of potentially increasing
disaffection among the Muslim Thai-Malay population. Chose US
relations with both of the concerned governments underscore the
need for a basic background paper on the characteristics of the
area der se, to enhance understanding by US officials of
developments there. We visualize a finished study similar in
organization and topical coverage to the Geogra hic Brief on
