Approved For Release 2008/11/04: CIA-RDP86M00886RO01100140027-9 THE UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE WASHINGTON, D.C. 20301 RESEARCH AND ENGINEERING 5 MAR 1982 Admiral B. R. Inman, USN Deputy. Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D.C. 2050 Dear Admiral.-Inman A National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee is in the process of being established. This committee when established will be composed of senior representatives from the telecommunications and information processing industry and. its purpose is to provide advice on telecommunications and information processing issues which relate to national security and emergency preparedness. To provide the best information on the issues involved and help them make a decision on participation, we are convening a preliminary conference and briefing. Enclosed are an agenda for this conference and the list of the recommended membership of the committee. The meeting is scheduled for -16 March 1982 at the National Military Command Center at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Our goal at this meeting is to begin developing a better, mutual understanding of the critical problems we have in our telecommunica- tions and information.processing systems as they relate to national security and emergency preparedness and to get their commitment to participate with us in solving them. Because the issues to be discussed are important to all Government agencies, we are also inviting senior.. Government officials such as yourself to attend. The meeting will begin at 0845 and will end at 1600. I recognize this is short notice. However, as you know, this Administration has decided to put a major emphasis on the subject of mobilization planning, especially as it relates to telecommunications and information processing. We have a solid agenda for the meeting, are ready to present the issues, and ,we hope your schedule will permit you to attend. .We look forward to seeing you on 16 March.
