SUBJECT: Memorandum for the Record Regarding Briefing of Ted Mehl
and Bill Lawrence, Staff of the House Government
Operations Committee, Subcommittee on Information,
Justice and Agriculture
1. On 3 May 1984, the NIO for Narcotics and his assistant,
accompanied by OI.L, briefed Ted Mehl and Bill Lawrence on
CIA's support to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and to the
National Narcotics Border Interdiction System (NNBIS).
2. In response to specific questions from the subcommittee staff,
the NIO stated that he had no specific knowledge of
but would inquire about it. The prove e a
general overview o the recently signed "Procedures Governing Conduct and
Cooperation by CIA and DEA of Narcotics Activities Abroad." The NIO also
presented the highlights of CIA's current initiatives regarding
information sharing with NSA and NNBIS.
