We sincerely appreciate your participation in the group interview seg-
ment of the 1982 Hope College Washington Honors Semester.
The quality of this course is entirely dependent upon the willingness of
individuals such as yourself to spend some of their valuable time with a
group of students. Our interview at your headquarters on January 12 was
excellent. Thank you for coordinating our visit. I am sorry that you
were ill and that we could not meet you again. I hope that you are well
and that we may see you in May.
Your contact with our students is not only commendable, but also an
effective means by which they may improve their understanding of our
governmental system.
Again, thank you for your time and we hope to see you in the future.
Sincerely,

CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY'
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20505
Holland, Michigan 49423
I am happy to be able to report to you, in response to your
letter of November 4, that one of our senior briefing officers
will be able to meet with students from the Hope College
Washington Honors program on January 12, 1982 from 10:45 to noon.
We have been unable to confirm availability of a conference room
as yet but I remain optimistic that I can find one. I should
have final word on the room early in December. Unless you hear
from me to the contrary at that time, I shall plan to meet you
at the entrance to our headquarters building at 10:45 on the
12th and will conduct your group to a small theater for the briefing.
I've enjoyed meeting with the students from Hope College in
the past and look forward to greeting this new group. Rather
than brief them myself, however, I think they will profit most
from exposure to one of our professional briefing officers. In
addition to explaining about the Agency's role in the nation's
security program, he will allow plenty of time for questions
from the audience. From my observations, I believe him to be
very knowledgeable, highly articulate, and able to establish
good rapport with college students. In short, I think you will
enjoy the briefing.
If the above is satisfactory to you, please confirm the
arrangements by calling me or my secretary
Sincerely,

This letter is to request that you participate in the group interview
segment of the Spring, 1982 Hope College Washington Honors Semester.
The group interview segment of the Washington Honors Semester involves
daily interviews with a variety of persons at two to four organizations
involved in a particular area of public policy. We have found that this
gives students a feel for the issues and an appreciation of different
viewpoints.
The seventeen student participants in the 1982 Washington Honors Se-
mester spend the semester in Washington and have two six-week intern-
ships in addition to three weeks of interviews interspersed throughout
the semester. The group includes juniors and seniors with majors in a
variety of disciplines.
At present we are planning to look at C.I.A. resources and our intelli-
gence needs as one of these policy areas. We would like to visit you in
your office or a convenient meeting room from 10:45-Noon on Tuesday,
January 12, 1982. If this time and date are convenient, please write a
confirmation to my address below. I then will contact the appropriate
person at your office to finally confirm arrangements. If this time
conflicts with your schedule and you would like to arrange an alternate
date, please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. I know the group
hopes to visit your office.
