The purpose of this letter is to confirm the informal
arrangements we have made concerning the upcoming hearing
on H.R. 4681.
The hearing will take place on 6 September 1984 at
10:30 a.m. in Room 2212 of the Rayburn House Office Building
before the Subcommittee on Investigations of the House Armed
sPrv;~P~ Committee. The Agency witness will be STAT
the Director of Security for the Central Intelligence STAT
gency. Although portions of the hearing will be open to the
public, we believe that a closed session is necessary to enable
our witness to present a complete and meaningful picture of the
use of the polygraph interview at the CIA. Consequently, our
portions of the hearing must be conducted in executive session,
with only members of the Committee and other cleared personnel
in attendance. From discussions with your staff, we understand
that an executive session for our portion of the hearing is
acceptable. We will be in contact with you concerning security
procedures necessary for our classified presentation.
We look forward to this opportunity to explain fully the
use of the polygraph interview at the CIA. If I can be of
further assistance with any of the, aspects of this hearing,
