Approved For Release 2009/03/25: CIA-RDP86B00338R000200300009-0 In reply refer to 1-05210/84 4 APR 1984 MEMORANDUM FOR DIRECTOR, OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE LIAISON CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY SUBJECT: Draft Amendment to the FY 1985 Intelligence Authorization Bill By Office of Legislative Liaison letter of March 30, the views of the Department of Defense were sought on a proposed amendment to subject bill that would, 1. Require that numbers, status, privileges and immunities, etc., within the U.S. of official representatives of foreign governments that engage in intelligence activities within the U.S. harmful to the national security should not exceed the-same number, etc., within such countries of official representatives of the U.S. 2. Require that the number of f oreign diplomats in the U.S. granted diplomatic immunity not exceed the number of U.S. nationals granted similar status within the country of any foreign government determined by the President to be engaged in intelligence activities within the U.S. harmful to the national security of the U.S. 3. Strike a requirement restricting the Director of the Office of Foreign Missions to an individual with 10 years as a member of the Foreign Service and other related qualifications.
