MEMORANDUM FOR: Director, Foreign Broadcast Information Service
THROUGH: Chief, Operations Group
SUBJECT: Monthly Report -- Hong Kong Bureau -- March 1983
Biographic Information -- The chief of the consulate's
political section and one of the political officers met with
the bureau chief, deputy and the chief monitor to discuss the
reporting of the consulate's biographic information section.
They are interested in changing the focus of the section's
reporting from the central to provincial leadership. They
discussed with bureau officers the amount of biographic infor-
mation the bureau gleans from its publications and solicited
advice on publications they might find useful to exploit.
A. Editorial/Monitorial
Monthly Wordage -- The bureau has again set a wordage
record with over 900,000 publishable words processed during
the month. Three issues of HONGQI were translated in entirety.
Monetary Awards -- Cash awards of $400 each were presented
to bureau technicians The STAT
awards were given in recognition o their design - an a rication
of an audio-video selector system for the bureau's television
monitoring program.
