Noted that in certain instances the subject of the briefs prepared of cables pointed up the content of the cable in a too-revealin fashion and asked to bring this to the attention of A cable in point is OUT 73855. The Director also stated he believed can] were retained too long in the Office of the Director, and asked to establish a system to provide for the destruction (in accordance with Agency Regulations) of all cables received by the O/DCI, after an appro- priate length of time -- normally a week or two. 25X1 s 25X1 Reported consideration was being given to employing sons and daugnters of Agency personnel -- this to be on a temporary basis and in a clerical capacity during their summer vacations. Colonel White explained that if this was done it would help to alleviate our personnel shortage, and, it particular, assist Colonel Edwards in obtaining security clearances 1n a shorter period of time. The Director stated he had no objection to this procedure, provided these young people are only used in the overt side of the Agency and would not come in contact with sensitive projects or corres- pondence classified above SECRET. Mr. Amory: a. Reported that the question of policy respecting a would be taken up at the NSC Meeting on 30 July after first being, con- sidered by the PSB. After some discussion Mr. Helms undertook to prepare .a paper on this subject for the Director's use at the PSB Luncheon on either 15 or 22 July. b. Raised the question of a conference with Ambassador Bohlen and the Director asked DD/I to arrange it. a. Referred to a comment by I that Ambassador Conant should have a military officer assigned to his staff who was knowledge?a-l' in political affairs. The Director said he would discuss this with eithe' General Bradley or General Collins. b. Reported the Agreed Activities Paper had been "noted" by the JIC and it was now proposed that this paper be sent by that Committee to the see al overseas commands for their comment. Noted that General Erskine would be here on the 20th and 21st for briefings and asked the Director if he wished to "kick this off' on the 20th. The Director stated he planned to be out of the city on that date. but indicated his wish to drop in on one of the meetings scheduled for the 21st.
