b. Reported he had received a call from Admiral Espe who
advised that Admiral Miles had made a statement that
was disturbed over our involvement in

"kick off" this briefing.

b. Reported that Dr. Conant was returning to the U. S. within
the next week, and during his visit wished to discuss with the
Director and the Secretary of State the subject of political subsidies.
Mr. Wisner went on to say that had prepared an excellent
briefing of this problem and the Director asked to see this paper
before his meeting with Dr. Conant.
c. Reported that he had been advised by Mr. Pforzheimer that
two members of McCarthy's staff were off on a European tour and hac
requested permission to contact our people at the various places
they might visit.

Reported that would be unable to keep his
luncheon appointment with the Director on the 7th; however, he cou:_d
make it on the 8th. The Director stated this would be satisfactory
to him.
Stated that a report had been received indicating that there
was a possibility that the Soviets may support the Tri-Partite
declaration on Trieste.
Mr. Amory:
Stated had agreed to recall all copies of the State
Department report on NSC 136/1 after it had been noted by the
Council at its meeting on 8 April. NOTE: These reports will be
retained in0 office.
