SUBJECT Project CAMS and Special Center Upgrade

Subject:. Project CAMS
Because of the lack of 6,500 square feet of suitable
space in.the Headquarters Building for a dedicated CAMS Computer
Center and serious operational problems associated with locating
it outside of the Headquarters Building we have concluded that
the GC-47 Special Center should be configured to support both
CAMS and the DDO requirements on a permanent continuing basis.
2.. To accomplish this, we would have to utilize all of
the GC-47 floor space currently devoted to offices. This
space could only be released for this purpose if we were pro-
vided 1,000 square feet of office space in the vicinity of
GC-47 prior to March 1979.
3. in addition to space, we also require additional
utility support for GC-47 to ultimately support a center with
three large scale (IBM 3033"or Amdahl V6 type) systems.
Attachment A is a schedule of events affecting the Special
Center from the present through the. installation of the third
large-scale system in FY-81/82 and the necessary power require-
ments. A 400.Hz UPS should also be installed to accommodate
these three systems.

4. We understand that additional air handlers are
presently being installed to. provide additional air condition-
ing for the Special Center. Please ensure that sufficient
cooling capacity. is provided to. handle the heat generated by
the new equipment. The new large-scale systems may require
chilled water. If so, chilled water stubs and valves will
be needed.
5. The use of the Special Center for CAMS will result
in substantial savings in space requirements, manpower and
operational support costs..
