is Eugenio Gomez, Secretary-General of the Uruguayan Communist Party (PCU), has
requested the expulsion and/or demotion of the following high-ranking Communist
officials, reportedly for reasons of negligence, dishonesty, and lack of ad-
herence to the Party lines
Juan Acuna Demotion from present Party position.
Vicente Denis Expulsion from the PCU.
Wilfredo Figueredo Expulsion from the PCU.
Laurencio Gomez Expulsion from the PCU.
Hector Rodriguez Demotion from present Party position.
2. Reportedly, further expulsions of PCU members will follow the above actions
According to sources, despite the fact that Gomez' purge action was supported
by his immediate followers, this decision has not been popularly received
by rank-and.-file Party members.
