.The produotion quota of 1950 was reached with a disregard of the rate of plant
operation inrelation to capacity, and, as a result, the quality of the product
deteiorated. Since 1946 over 95 percent of the steel produced was exported to
the 50viot Union? Atter the beginning of the mar on 25 Juno 1950, some plants
mem forced to cease operation because of the loss of power supplies. By Novem-
ber 1950 about 80 putent of the pover system-in North Korea was dentroyedl and
80 percent of factory buildings and from 40 to 60 percent of factory installations
were destroyed. Sill factories and important fsetories were voted undergrounki
or to rural areas sr, that production could be continued.
