Acyivities of the Bast China Air Force Shanghai Base Coniand between 1 aaad 20 August were as follows: A wall group of fighters made daily re:4annaiasance flights over Shanghai. 2. Students of the Shanghai Branch Air Force School practiced flying at various fields on 2, 4, 7, 10, 15 and 17 August. 3, On 4 August one reconnaissance plane landed at Lunghua Airfield. 4, On 4 August one fighter wing flew from Shanghai to Nanking and returned to ?ach'a'ng Airfield. 5., On E .~uglxet four bombers landed at Lunghu and eight fighters landed at lach'ang and Tfungjao. 6. On 10 August pie transport loaded with jet plane parts landed at Tach'ang. It left with discarded plans parts on the same day. 7. On 11 August the 1 Fighter ?Ding left Shanghai for .1Tanhing; and returned to Flung jao Airfield. 8. On 14 August nine fighters and three bombers left Shanghai. 9. On. 17 August two figiter wings stationed at Tiungjao and Tach'ang and one bomber group stationed at L,,nghu , loft for TTanking, but the ,mound crows re:-:ain.od in Shanghai. On 16 August at 3 P.M. two large Soviet-made bomb,,re landed at Lunghua Airfield.. It was said they had, come to Shanghai for refueling and were in the process of a long-distance flight from 'urope. Tach plane took 60 drums of gasoline plus several tons of gallons of an. unknown type fuel. '.these planes were inspected and serviced exclusively by Soviet personnel. The planes were said to be Tupoler Type-6 (sic). The planes had wings swept back at 45 degroes and six "chi.eh tao" (42 j' ). The engines were under the wings. 11. On their return trip to T3urope the two large bombers had. afigater escort, and while en route back one of them (sic) crashed at the foot of Chilienshan (98-42, 3910)., Kansu.2 1. MWgILt?
