DO REPORT NO. CD NO. DATE DISTR. 31 August 1951 NO. OF PAGES 1 NO. OF ENCLS.. I SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO, 25X1 X 1. About 1 km east of the railway station at Jelenia Gore. (Hirschberg in Riesengebirge) there is an airfield situated just north of the road and railway line to Miedzianka.(Xupferberl There is a road to the north of the airfield and one to the west of it; the latter road links the Jelenia Gora-Miedzia, sn road with that forming the northern boundary of the field, and is lined with buildings and farms. The airfield was built by the Gerrmns before the war? It has a hard surface, sown with rr-rass, which has been leveled and drained, and. is generally in good condition. There are no runways. The field measures 1,200 meters from east to west and 1,000 meters from north to south, and is fenced in by barbed wire, which is damaged in places; its limits are indicated by white concrete poles. Aircraft cannot take off when there is a southerly or southwesterly wind, because of the occurrence of "rotor pressed" waves (sic). 3. The airfield is not equipped with any spacial equipment designed for military use, with the exception of the lighting system which can illuminate the entire field at night. This system was damaged recently and is inoperative, duo to the f.,ct that none of the airfield personnel know how to repair the equipment. There are two hangars on the field; one, in bad condition , measuring 18 by 26 meters (No. 1 on attached sketch), and one in very Food condition measuring 18 by 30 meters (No. 3 on attached sketch). There is also a sentry box (No. 2 on attached sketch), which is used to observe the airfield. 4. There are four planes at the airfield, a P0--2, a CSS-13 made at tfielec, and two Piper Cubs. There had previously been some glider planes, but at the beginning of 1951 these were transferred to other airfields. 5. Soviet-exploited uranium ore mines are located near by at Miedzianka. In order to prevent aerial observation of the mining operation, the airfield may be either turned over to the Air Force or decoz nissioned. ego s'~---- Document No. -- ------- No Ch. nge In CIs ;. 11 73 S C NTIAL CLASSIFICAi ION STATE x ARMY _-a.,J_~_ .NAVY NSRB DISTRIBUTION I-3 0, 11 ~G t& 1978 _ Approved For Release 2001/03/06 : CIA-RDP82-00457R008500120005-4
