40 percent of the equipment and 70 percent of the buildings were destroyed
hy September 1950.

slants had been taken over from the Japanese and enlarged. The most impor-
nant of these are as follows:
Ulchn Pulp Plant : Kilchu (129-20, 40-58); 1,200 employees; equipmen? con-
sists of two paper machines; products aro 60 tons of artificial pulp, 35 tons
of papor, and 60 kiloliters of alelsol a day.
Fyongyang Cornstarch Factory: Pyongyang; 1,000 employees; formerly known as
the Nippon Cornstarch Company; products are 252000 toxic of starch and 1,0200
tons of millet ;jelly ye,rly? and 240 tons of glucose monthly.
ngyo.ae: Silk Textile Plant: Pyongyang; 1,300 employees; equipment consists
of 300 silk-reeling machines. 32 cotton weaving machines, 82 ailk-wea-
nachines,, and 12 otanowrx-sille machines; products are 850 meters of silk fabric,
0 reero of cotton fabric, 60 kilograms of thrown silk, and 200 kilograms
of raw silk o day.
Sasiwon Textile Plant: Sariwon (125-44ti $8-30); 2,500 employees; formerly
known_ as the Oriental Spinning Company; equipment consists of 16 spinning ma--
&lines, 288 silkwoaving machlnes 42 sewing machines, 360 wool-spinX,ng ma-
ohines? and 36 wool-..weaving machines; products are 3 tons of cotton thread,
17 kilometere of cotton cloth, 200 meters of woolen cloth, and 350 work dreeses
a day.
Pyonsyang Fabric Plant: West Pyongyang; 1s.60J employees; equipment consists
of 94 silk-weaving machines and 28 special weaving machines; products are 1,400
reters of artificial silk and 300 meters of special stuff a day.
Sinuiju Paper 14113: Sinuiju (124-24, 40-06); 900 employees: formerly known as
the Oji Papor flill; equipment consists of four paper machines; products are
'SJ tuns of rolled paper and 3 tons of rice paper a day.
Sinoiju Pulp Plant; Sinuiju; 1,200 employees; equipment consists of two paper
ischiroe; rroducts are 30 tons of reed pulp and five tons of drawing paper a day
