In late Juno there were approximately 250 planes in the East China Military Area including 70 'transports, 50 jet fighters, 100 fighter-bombers, and 30 TU-2 bombers. The Chinese Camaunist authorities were planning to increase the number of planes in that area to 500, with approximately 50 additional planes of Soviet manufacture. 2. In late June specially selected troops of the 3 Field ArnV, were receiving paratroop training at Nanking, Shanghai, and Hsiohou (sic Al with special emphasis on demolition techniques. 3. On 4 July Chinese Communist Air Force activities included the following: a number of YAK-171s flair training missions from Tangshan (118...11, 39-38) and 10 L11G?15's were scheduled to leave Yangtolun for Liut'ing Airfield.g 4L On 4 July Ts'angk'ou Airfield, Tsingtao, closed at 6 a?m,,, opex}od at I p,m.e closed at 2:15 p.m,, o_.ened at 4:50 p.m., closed at 6s12 p.m,, and opened at 7:40 p.m.. All airfields in the Lluukden area opened at 8:25 a.m. Lanchow Airfield closed at 6 a.m. because of rain and a sand atom and opened at 8 am.
