DCS Source has proved an outstanding supporter of the Denver Field Chief and his office. The Source's continued experiences with left-wing and dissident groups, including his own operations in that sector, have been made available to this office on a very sensitive but totally voluntary basis. 2. Imm2diatc1y upon his return from leave 10 Aug 70, the Denver Field Chief received a telephone call from Source . who stated that the Young Socialist Alliance, the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), White Militant Dissidents and the 'Corky" Gonzales Chicano :4ovement had been very active in July. .In that context, Source provides for us a series of memoranda prepared by his informants 3. The hippie movement, which is fast becoming a problem of great significance in our community, is proving a thorn in the side of law enforce- ment bodies, businessmen and city administrators. But above and beyond all this, Source and his confidants have greater concern over the Young Socialist Alliance which they feel to be more concrete in its programs, better organized and more effective. 4. The data forwarded for our Headquarters people is of course unusually sensitive. It could prove extremely useful and will be continued if they wish. However, our outstanding source merits, and must have, complete protection in his anonymity. Source recently directed one of his officers to confer in strictest confidence with a prominent Denver businessman wthose investments are apparently widespread. The unnamed individual, whom Source considers 'highly experienced, intelligent and patriotic confided that during the course of a very sensitive business me4tins, in Denver, Colorado; influential investors frequently injected the name of Philip Wilsonvinto their conversations. Source's 'subordinate was told that Philip Wilson is a resident of St. Louis, nissouri and the Director of Liberty Funds Limited (a mutual funds group). Source's contact also /earned in the course of the conversation with mid-western businessmen that Philip Wilson is a very large contributor of funds, weapons and other unspecified equipment to the Black Panther Party. Wi1t9n and his partner are reported to own a bank in Nassau. It seems, however, that the bank is no more than an accomodation address--a means of transmitting funds to dissidents abroad. 17 Sept 70 DCS Case 2. This information is submitted in its entirety in the contemplation that it may be of some use. _Source vouches for the integrity and stability of his source. -end- - V61 I ; 54 . L-- J ;. t pproved for Release: 2024/12/20 CO2400790
