According to Rolando Masferrer, Chief of the Movimiento eocialista hevolucionaria
(MER), rivalry between Cuban revolutionary groups, the V.SR, the Union
Insurreccional Revolucionaria (UIR), and the Accion Revolucionaria Ouiteras
(ARG), may soon lead to serious bloodshed.
Masferrer asserted that in any conflict with other revolutionary groups the
MSR expects to be supported by General Genovevo Perez Damera, Cuban Army
Chief of Staff. The UIR� which is backed by Ruben de Leon, Minister of the
Interior,* and the ARC, which according to Masferrer is supported by President
Carlos Prio Socarras, will be lined up against the MFR., Yasferrer described
the UIR and the Am as anti-imperialist groups,
3. Masferrer has been anti-ARO in his comments in Meeeeekeeeeeepetvei, the MSR semi-
official publication, One of his articles concerned the homicidal, strong-
arm career of Gonzalez Carts, leader of the ARG, Gonzales Carta was allegedly
annoyed at the unpleasant publicity because he plans to be a candidate for
Representative in the Cuban Congress of 1950.
4, Enrique C, Henriquez� brother-in-law of President Frio and a Representative
from Oriente Province, recently entered into a political alliance with
Masferrer, also a Representative from Oriente yrovince,** Henriquez and
Masferrer have agreed that waki" Masferrer, brother of Rolando, will be the
1950 candidate for mayor of the city of Holguin, Oriente Province, and that
Guarro Ochoa will be a candidate for Representative from Oriente,, The Party
under which "Kiki" Masferrer and Guarro Ochoa will run has not been decided,
but source stated that it will undoubtedly be the Autentico group, '

Comment. While Henriquez and Masferrer were associated in the abort(b)(3)
revolutionary attempt against the Dominican Republic in 1947, they were never
friendly, The, new combination now sets both Henriquez and Masferrer against
Juan Bosch and Eufemio Fernandez, who have been active in Caribbean and Central
American revolutionary activities on-the local political scene,
