According to the Chief of Swedish Intelligence,
the Swedish Government believes that Soviet fighters
shot down the Swedish Air Force C-147 lost on 12 June
as a planned operationg whereas, shooting down of
the Catalina search plane four days later was unpre-
meditated. The C47, which was actually nearer
Sweden than the U.S.S.R. when attacked, had flown a
number of radar detection missions previously, and
the Soviets probably observed it and understood its
activity. The Swedish Air Force will not restrict
operations over the Baltic as a result of the incident
but will prepare aircraft to defend themselves in the
