Argentina: The US Embassy reports an increas-
ing lack of confidence in the Guido government, which,
combined with the general disintegration in the politi-
cal and economic situation, could result in an early
move by any one of various elements advocating the
overthrow of the government. There is much spec-
ulation that even those military leaders who feel re-
sponsible for maintaining Guido in power are finding
it increasingly difficult to justify his continued reten-
tion in office.
Dominican Republic: The ruling seven-man coun-
cil is being threatened by a number of developments.
\ Public ani-
mosity is mounting against the sugar legislation now
being considered by the US Congress. Dominican bus-
inessmen are also publicly protesting the atmosphere
of "insecurity and terror" created by "juvenile delin-
quents" who are being incited,by subversive agitators.
