Following is information obtained by of CCS
while talking with Mr. Mullen of the Robert R. Mullen Company on 20 August
1973. This information was obtained while talking with Mr. Mullen con-
cerning the termination of agents previously under cover of his company.

Robert R. Mullen Company, was interviewed by the Ervin Committee a week
or so ago in the Senate Office Building, Howard Hunt poked his head in the
door and talked with Mr. Bennett for a short time. Mr. Bennett said that
Mr. Hunt was his own effervescent self and appeared to be well physically
and mentally. This was directly opposite to a report Mr. Mullen had
received from a woman who had reason to see Mr. Hunt about a month ago and
who reported that Mr. Hunt appeared to be a completely shattered person.
Mr. Bennett was not asked any questions by the Committee relating to CIA.
3. Mr. Mullen then recalled that formerly of the
Retirement Affairs Branch, had contacted him over three years ago asking
him to talk with Mr. Hunt for the purpose of helping Mr. Hunt obtain
employment. Mr. Hunt, who was retiring from the Agency, showed Mr. Mullen
a letter of recommendation allegedly written by Mr. Richard Helms, then
director of CIA. Mr. Mullen observed that in view of Mr. Hunt's admitted
forgery of State Department cables, he now wondered whether the letter was
authentic. Mr. Mullen, who had known Mr. Hunt during World War II, obtained
several interviews for Mr. Hunt, one being with the General Foods Company,
which informed Mr. Mullen that Mr. Hunt was a bright, intelligent individual
but that unfortunately it did not have an opening. Mr. Mullen about that
time needed someone to help with his HEW contract and hired Mr. Hunt who did
