Raised the question of a replacement for Colonel Peers. Mr. Wisner noted that his people were dealing with this matter and that would (b)(3) only be a substitute. Mr. Hedden suggested that possibly Gen. Merrill might (b)(3) have some ideas as to a qualified replacement. b. Noted the item in the Log of February 14-15 concerning PSB's request for assignment of an individual to deal with the Defector question. Mr. Wisner noted that we were closely following this matter and he intended to discuss it further with Jim Hunt who has just returned from leave. C. Raised the question as to whether we should give a dinner for General Strong. After some discussion, Mr. Wisner stated he believed it would be best to hold such a dinner at a private home and noted he would do this at his home on 6 March. D/DCI will attend. (b)(1) d. Stated he had a talk with and that hAd suggested that we approach him direct (b)(3) rather than going to on the matter Mr. Wisner (b)(1) undertook to discuss this matter with Gen. Merrill on the chance that he was (b)(3) (D)(1) personally acquainted (b)(3) e. Stated that the recent NATO decisions marked a major turn and that he would prepare a draft cable to some of our people asking that they report on Soviet reactions on this matter. f. Asked for a copy of DCI's reply to Gen. Ridgway and our comments on NOTE: Mr. Long will show these papers to D/DCI. (W(1) (b)(3) Mr. Wisner: a. Reported on the progress of the deception matter. b. Briefly discussed publicity on the Greek trials. Noted that the situation in Czechoslovakia was boiling Ard that would give D/DCI a briefing on this matter.
