On December 30, 2006 Saddam Husayn (also transliterated as Saddam Hussein) was hanged on the
first day of Eid ul-Adha at aprox. 0610 local time. The execution was carried out at "Camp Justice, an
Iraqi army base in Kazimain (NE Baghdad).
Latest Reporting
� 27 February 2006- Stopped his hunger strike which had lasted for eleven days due to health
reasons.
(U) On 01 March 2006, Saddam Husayn admitted he ordered the trial of the 148 Shiites who plotted to
assassinate him in 1982.
(U) Saddam did not specifically admit guilt, but assumed full responsibility for the executive decision as
the President of Iraq.
(U) Saddam was adamant that his actions did not constitute a crime because the victims were dealt with
by a revolutionary court.
(U) Keys to the prosecutions case were proving that the crimes had occurred and the defendants?
affirmation that their actions were justified.
(U) With the trial set to resume on 12 March 2006, it is likely the prosecution will rest having proven the
most difficult part of its case.
(U) The defense has given no indication of returning to the courtroom after their boycott and is unlikely
to present a valid counter following recent testimony.
