Howard Hunt's Claim that He Spied on
Goldwater in the 1964 Election Campaign
1. With reference to the subject matter appearing first as
a news story in the December 20th Washington Post, the DCI asked me
to look into the matter on the morning of 20 December. After conducting
preliminary inquiries I recommended to the DCI that the matter be turned
over to you for further investigation and he agreed. Attached hereto are
such records and information as we have been able to determine to date.
This includes:
� a. Howard Hunt's official personnel file covered
by a series of notes taken from his file done by the ADDM&S.
b. Attached also is a Casualty Affairs Branch
Disability Claim file covering Hunt's claim for disability
compensation for hospitalization for a duodenal ulcer on
October 12, 1964.
c. A medical record of E. Howard Hunt showing
notations in their files signed by the Director of Medical
Services dated 20 December 1973.
e. The official leave record for Hunt for 1964.
2. We are in the process of querying by phone Tom Schreyer
who signed Hunt's Fitness Report for this period. Schreyer has retired
and is now living in Boca Ratan, Florida. His phone number is: Area.
