Papadopoulos and several other Greek leaders believe that student unrest is being directed by a group composed of former politicians and cashiered generals. Other high of- ficials are convinced that leftists are stirring up the students. All, however, are concerned that the problem will spill over into other segments of so- ciety. The government's tough line appears aimed at scaring the students into submission and deterring a sympathetic reaction on the part of the public. Some students have already returned to classes, but a vocal minority in Athens University continues to protest. When students at Athens University ex- pressed a desire to hold a rally yesterday, the prime minister angrily ordered the university closed for six days. The government's harsh measures could easily generate greater student defiance. 7 Mar 73 Central intelligence Bulletin 8 -7173P-8-Ereft-E-T Approved for Release: 2018/08/01 CO2001266 Approved for Release: 2018/08/01 CO2001266 NR Record Approved for Release: 2018/08/01 CO2001266 Approved for Release: 2018/08/01 CO2001266 Approved for Release: 2018/08/01 CO2001266
