COMMENTS (Number each comment to show from whom
to whom. Draw a line across column 'after each comment.)
Attached is the memorandum
-
proposed for the FBI, correcting
information provided earlier on
McCord's involvement in "Cuban
,activities." It took longer to find
the answers than had been
expected; in fact, retirees had
to be interviewed to reconstruct
the activity.
This memo has been coordinated
with DDO, 0/Sec and OGC and is
ready to go if it meets with your
approval.

CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20505
12 JUL 1374
MEMORANDUM FOR: The Director
Federal Bureau of Investigation
SUBJECT ' : James Walter McCord, Jr.
1. Reference is made to memoranda from this Agency
dated 21 June 1972 and 6 July 1972 which stated that a
review of Mr. McCord's duties and assignments provided
no indication that he was involved in Cuban matters and
that he was :not assigned to the Bay of Pigs operation.
However, a recent review has revealed that from late 1960
to mid-1961 Mr. McCord was involved in planning activities
in Washington concerning a compartmented clandestine
operation targeted against Cuba, and that from Washington
he directed as many as three Agency operational assets
who traveled to Cuba with the limited mission of obser-
vation and reporting. On completion of this operation,
the agents were redirected to other, non-Cuban foreign
intelligence activities. These individuals were of
neither Cuban nationality nor extraction.
2. This information is being provided to supplement
the record of Mr. McCord's official duties. It does not
alter other information previously provided concerning
his service with this Agency.
