JAN 1975 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Alleaations re Intercept of George Meany's Mail; 1.S Subsequent to Laurence Stern's 10 January 1975 article in the Washington Post charging that the Agency "secretly read the mail of AFL-CIO President George Meany" and alleging the existence of a "postal monitoring scheme," persons having some knowledge of the facts were questioned. A perusal of appropriate files is currently underway. 2. At this time there is no evidence whatsoever of the existence of a mail intercept in cdnnection with this allegation.
