Dear Mr. Jaworski:
'Pt
I have your letter of 19 February 1974 requesting that
the original tape of the 22 July 1971 Cushman-Hunt conversation
be made available to your office for analysis and presentation
to the grand jury. As I explained earlier to your staff when
we discussed the tape a week or 10 days ago, we had advised
Senator Baker of your request. I told Mr. Merrill and Mr. Bakes
that apparently Senator Baker would not accede to our request.
We have made it clear to the Senator that we have no objection
whatever to having this tape made available to you, either
directly or through the Agency.
The Agency is now going to write to Senator Baker
asking that the tape be returned to us for delivery to you or,
if he prefers, that he make it available directly to you. Of
course, we will refer to your letter of 19 February, a copy of
which you have sent him.
