MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Meeting with Senator Symington, 21 December 1973
1. On 21 December I met Senator Symington at his office.
I began by expressing my concern at Senator Bakers continued
unease about possible CIA involvement in the Watergate. I
explained that I had mentioned this to Senator Stennis who had
advised me that I should not try to get Senator Baker to reveal
his sources to me or challenge his unease. Senator Symington
then said that I should relax on the matter and not be overly
tense. He said that he had been following the matter closely
and would be following it very closely in the future. He
said that he has tried himself to find very precisely any
Agency involvement and is satisfied that he has received full
accounting of all matters. I assured him that this would continue.
2. In the hall I commented to Senator Symington that we had
made arrangements for the disposition of Southern Air Transport
although we had withdrawn from the international routes and
had also withdrawn the certificate as a supplemental domestic
carrier. Senator Symington indicated that he was aware that
these withdrawals had taken place and seemed satisfied with
the course of events.
