Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 CO1482370 1. HOV 73 I have written a letter similar to this several times, each time with the feeling of utter desperation and dispair, realizing that an unsigned letter, with so little concrete evidence, may well end up being discarded as a "crank" letter. I am sending a copy of this letter to a number of people as it will have to be my last effort concerning the matter. I simply don't know what else I can do or where else I can go beyond this point. The few facts I have, leading to the belief there has long been a con- spiracy to weaken and destroy the Presidency and with it our country, drive me to repeatedly urge deeper, fuller investiga- tion of what little information I can offer. The facts are that during January 1973, when no one in our country was yet taking "Watergate" seriously, a Miss Renaude LaPointe (member of the Canadian Senate, formerly a distinguished Quebec journalist and one-time Quebec correspondent for Time magazine in Canada) was made aware that the President of the United States would soon be politically destroyed, forced from office, and that much of his administration and many of his supporters would be smeared and incriminated beyond hope of survival. This knowledge was fairly prevalent among some government people in the Canadian capital of Ottawa even earlier than Miss LaPointe's awareness of it -- as early perhaps as the late fall or early winter of 1972. Another member of the Canadian government to hear such rumors or plans was a Mr. Barnett J. Denson (member of Canada's House of Commons, former Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and former Toronto businessman). If there is a conspiracy to destroy the Presidency (and it probably would not have begun with President Nixon -- Mr. Nixon just happened to be the unfortunate incumbent at the final thrust of the conspiracy), it is possible it is operating out of the safety of Canada where, through carelessness or plan, knowledge of it seemed strong although submerged months before it became a serious matter here. Part of the conspiracy may have consisted of the "bugging" of the Democratic National committee headquarters in March 1972, the subsequent entrapment of administration and CRP personnel into the plan, the second "unnecessary" break-in in June 1972 for the purpose of being caught, the simple and inevitable entanglement of people in a cover-up as a result of their natural, human panic in the midst of a national election, and the deliberate "revelations" which would follow. This, however, is only conjecture. Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482370 Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482370 2. The phase of the conspiracy which is certain is the planned, organized, deliberate day-by-day smear campaign against the President, his administration and his supporters, emanating. from a safe base (possibly located in Canada and, if so, probably in Ottawa), which would methodically destroy the President and everyone associated with him, along with the slow, deliberate, methodical turning of public opinion irrevocably against the President. Each smear, distortion and lie was planned well in advance and fed to the news media, by various sources, on a day-by-day basis and would continue until its ultimate purpose is accomplished. Messrs. Liddy, Hunt and McCord must surely have been part of the conspiracy, although here I am stating only theory. Mr. Hunt's presence at disasters has possibly been too fre- quent to be accidental -- Bay of Pigs where the Cubans were expecting us, attempted air lift rlf. P.O.W.'s where the North Vietnamese had ranee notice and moved our empted rescue, the suspicious e may have wanted to reveal t's disinterest in attending lence makes no sense at all, often pretended to be, he would willingly spend years e believed deeply -- a ly political figure or r against the President, rted testimony no longer o sense unless turning from the very beginning. communists would not, mpted to and succeeded in infiltrating _ and F.B.I., as might be the case with Messrs. Liddy, Hunt and McCord. This, however, is again only conjecture. The knowledge by some Canadians in government in Ottawa, at far too early a date, of a conspiracy to destroy the American President and everyone around him, is fact. Some way must be found to get to the source of this advance knowledge, or the conspiracy which must still be in full operation may well destroy our President and our country. I cannot sign my name to this letter for obvious reasons. I do not believe I would ever know a moment of peace for the rest of my life should my identity become known if my knowledge should prove accurate. I can only hope and pray and urge that steps be taken to get to the source of what I am certain is a Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482370 Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482370 conspiracy, beginning with the knowledge and rumors which were so rife in the Canadian capital months before they became items of news here in the United States.
