MEMORANDUM FOR: General Counsel
SUBJECT: Agency Watergate Involvements
1. We have today received Mr. Colby's memorandum of
23 May 1973 regarding Agency involvement in the Watergate
case.
2. This office has had no "involvement" with indi-
viduals or matters related to the Watergate case. However,
we are peripherally "endangered" because of cover considera-
tions.
3. John Dean's lawyer is Robert C. McCandless, who
until recently was a partner in the firm of Bunten, Hansen
& McCandless.� This legitimate law firm,
gave Mr. McCandless
the option of leaving the partnership or dropping his
present client for reasons of conflict of interest within
that firm. Mr. McCandless is presently seeking to physi-
cally move from the offices but there is no assurance that
this will be accomplished before John Dean is under even
heavier press coverage than he is today. Mr. McCandless
has advised me that John Dean knows, back from the days of

6. Agency management. should also be aware of the fact
that Attorney Fensterwald is co-counsel with McCandless
of "Friends of Animals" and other like interests.

She is fielding telephone
calls and visits from (it seems at times) every represen-
tative of the media.
8. We strongly believe that we will "survive" unless
exposed by a dissident or publicity-seeking former employee.
