Francis Gary Powers has retained a Los Angeles law firm who has written the President of the United States requesting military retirement benefits which had been allegedly denied his years ago. The record on this is not clear; however, the Air Force is pre- sently offering Powers three options: First, retirement from the Air Force at the rank of lieutenant colonel crediting Fewer* with his time in the Air Force, CIA and working on Government contracts for Lockheed. BYR-11165-7l Page 2 second, crediting Powers with his CIA and Air Force active duty time totaling twelve years and reinstating his in the Air Fbrce for the next eight years until twenty years' Federal service are completed. Air Force assignment would be either to the U-2 squadron or as a pilot on MAC flights. Third, reinstatement as above with assignment as details, to CIA as a U-2 mission planner.
