The following units were seen moving into the barracks installation on the Approved For Release 2001/03/06 : CIA-RDP82-00457RO10000180003-2 25X1A CLASSIFICATION Polish-occupied Germany eastern perimeter of Sorau, on the south side of the road to Sagan (0 52/B 26), when they returned from the 1950 fall maneuvers: An artillery unit. Twelve artillery pieces of 100 to 120 mm, towed by trucks, were repeatedly observed with the unit. The guns had two wheels with rubber tires and mounted a barrel, which measured about 4 meters from breechblock to muzzle. ,s The personnel of the unit were issued new uniforms and caps with red bands in the fall of 1950. ** The unit was last observed in the installation in early 1951. p \i'9 25X1A An artillery unit, apparently an AT artillery battalion. The unit was organized into 3 batteries with motorized guns of about 100 mm, which were low built, had 2 dual tires and mounted an unusually long barrel. The personnel of this unit were also issued new uniforms and caps with red bands in the fall of 1950. The unit was last observed in the installation in December 1950. A motorized infantry unit. The unit was last observed when it moved into the installation upon its return from the 1950 fall maneuvers. ip'pk 2. The military post hospital was established in the former insane asyliua in the northeastern sector of Sorau. The UB (Security Police) office was located in a reconstructed former private building on a side street of former Bahnhof- strasse, 100 to 500 meters northwest of the railroad station. A militia office was located in a former private building on the west side of the Ring. 3. * Comment. Possibly Soviet 122-mm howitzers. 25X1A '`* comment. This information confirms a previous report, according to which the units in Sorau, in the fall of 1950, were furnished with new grey- blue uniforms, but retained the red cap band, which is indicative of units assi ned to a mechanized or tank division. `See 25X1A. 25X1A *'- Comment. This report substantially confirms previous information on the occupation of the barracks installation on the road to Sagan by motorized 25X1A infantry and motorized artillery troops. See .
