SUBJECT: Briefing of the Special Subcommittee on Intelligence of House Armed Services Committee� 1. This morning Messrs. Lawrence Houston, General Counsel; William Broe, Inspector General; Howard Osborn, Director of Security; Paul. Gaynor, Chief, Security Research Staff; and Secretary to General Walters, appeared before the above Subcommittee about Agency actiori.ta.ken. on letters received from James McCord. The meeting lasted from 1000 hours to 1245 hours. There was no technical sweep of the room, 2216 Rayburn House Office Building, and the room was not kept under technical monitoring. Discussions were ,on a Secret level. A transcript was taken and is on file in the Office of Legislative Counsel. Present for the session were: Lucien N. Nedzi (D., Mich.), F. Edward Hebert (D., La.) Melvin =Price (D., Ill.) William G. Bray (R. , Id.) Leslie C. Arends (R., Ill. ) Bob Wilson (R., Calif.) ..3. He said this would explain why these letters were just now being 'surfaced.
