This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
I am requesting information or records on Mary Elizabeth McHughes Ferrell.
She was born Oct. 26, 1922 in Memphis, TN and died Feb. 20, 2004, in Dallas,
Texas. Her Social Security number was Her last known address was (b)(6)
4406 Holland Ave. in Dallas. Her obituary was published in The Dallas Morning
News from Feb. 23 to Feb. 24, 2004. A copy of this obituary is attached.
Specifically, I am requesting information or records indicating whether Mary
Elizabeth McHughes Ferrell had ever been a CIA employee or had any other type
of affiliation with the CIA. This would include standard personnel or
contractor files and agreements with Mary Elizabeth McHughes Ferrell.
I am also requesting information or records of communications between Mary
Elizabeth MqHughes Ferrell and the CIA, including but not limited to records
requests that Mary Elizabeth McHughes Ferrell made to the CIA. Please search
the CIA FOIA logs for requests made by Ferrell between and Jan. 1, 1963 and
Feb. 20, 2004.
I am also requesting information or records of any reports or other documents
generated by the CIA about Mary Elizabeth McHughes Ferrell.
Please notify me first if the processing fee exceeds $50. If you deny all or
any part of this request, please cite each specific exemption you believe
justifies your refusal to release the information I am requesting and notify
me of appeal procedures available to me under law.

FERRELL, MARY ELIZABETH McHUGHES, 19 enees
died peacefully at her home in Dallas. Texas,
on Friday evening, February 20, 2004 at age
81. surrounded by family and friends. Mary
had struggled for years with her typically
dogged determination against a variety of

her interest in the world and the people around her. Her Restore the Guest Booir

the many people who knew and loved her. Born in Memphis,
Tennessee on October 26. 1922. she married Hubert Mon
"Buck" Ferrell on June 18, 1940. Together, they had four children. Mary and Buck moved to
Dallas With their family in .1957 where she worked more than thirty years as a legal secretary
for a law firm and also in the Governor's office in Austin. Mary was a woman of rare ability who
is regarded internationally as one of the mast knowledgeable and respected historical
researchers of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. In 1963, she was working in downtown
Dallas, when on November 22, John Kennedy ems assassinated. Mary began a lifelong inquiry
that brought her into contact with researchers, authors, taw enforcement, the United States
Congress, and people from all over the world. She developed and continually updated a
database of the vast array of information which she had accurnutated, with her last entries
made in December of 2003. Mary also created a four-volume set of chronologies. covering all
aspects of the assassination with annotations in extraordinary data Her archives, which
gained worldwide attention, were donated in 2001 to the Mary Ferrell Foundation base in
Boston. Massachusetts. Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol Anne Burtchaell, two sons,
Wiliam Franklin Ferrell and James Lee Ferrell, one sister, Shirley Mn Botch, three
grandchildren, Karen Sue Taylor. Mary Elizabeth Lynch and Dann Elizabeth Ferrell and five
great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Hubert
Afton Ferrell, her son, Lawrence Afton Ferrell, her grandson, David Lawrence Haggard, her
brother, John Breckenridge McHughes, and a sister, Effie McHughes Campbell. Visitation will
be held on Tuesday, February 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. with services in the Chapel lAtednesday,
February 25 at 2:00 PM. at Sparkman/I-Interest in Dallas, Texas. Memorial contributions may
be made in Mary's name to Sisters of the Poor Glares, 1310 Dellwood, Memphis. Tennessee
