SALVADOR: Reaction to Romero's Assassination
Public reaction to Archbishop Romero's assassina-
tion is now beginning to develop, but there have been
no widespread demonstrations so far. Unless the junta's
investigation produces quick results, Salvadorans will
e increasingly likely to blame the government. In the
meantime, yesterday's sporadic guerrilla bombings in
the capital probably will continue throurout the 0
. three-03
day mourning period. )

SRAEL: Energy Minister's Visit
While Israeli Energy Minister Modai is in Washington
this week he may try to invoke the US-Israeli oil supply
agreement, even though Israel's supply situation is
favorable. We believe Israel is afraid that if it waits
until a global shortage occurs the US could find it dif-
ficult to provide oil. In addition, Modal probably will
attempt to obtain several billion dollars in long-term
financial and technical assistance for oil exploration
and oil shale development. The issue of additional US
financial assistance for the construction of oil storage
facilities also may arise. (b)(3)
